About me, briefly
I am Simon Zebaljec, a mechatronics engineer by training from the Upper Savinja Valley in Slovenia. My career has taken me through process engineering and various technology roles, including head of the technology department, and today I work mainly as a SCADA engineer. Alongside that I develop my own digital projects, and I am particularly interested in the practical use of artificial intelligence. I develop Poišči si dom through my own company, Kosmolab, Simon Zebaljec s.p., which also operates it.
In my work I deal a lot with industrial systems, process data, automation and digitalisation — above all with how to connect data and present it so that it becomes useful information for making decisions. That shapes how I see property too: there is no shortage of data — it is simply scattered and disconnected.
Why this project
For most people, buying a home is one of the largest financial decisions of their life. Yet we prepare for it with tools built for something else: listing portals are designed mainly to publish and display adverts, not to help you decide between them.
So buyers assemble the picture themselves — from adverts on several portals, maps, public registers, spreadsheets and notes on their phone. What is this flat worth compared with the area? How far is the kindergarten? What should I ask at the viewing? Where do I stand with the three properties I am seriously considering? The answers exist, but each in a different place.
Poišči si dom is being built to bring those pieces together in one place — so that choosing a home is more a matter of data and less a matter of guesswork.
What I want to do differently
A few principles I follow while building it:
- Data next to the listing, not just the listing — price comparisons and information on how close schools, kindergartens, public transport and other important places are.
- A private space for the buyer — notes, viewing photos, checklists and purchase stages are there for them.
- Properties from other portals too — a purchase does not happen on a single website, so I want buyers to be able to track properties they find elsewhere as well.
- Clearly labelled AI — whatever the assistant suggests must be clearly separated from verified data and must not replace the buyer’s own decision.
- Slovenian data and Slovenian rules — using Slovenian public data, such as GURS and SURS data, and content tailored to the procedures and laws that apply here.
How the project is being built
I am building the platform step by step and in the open: major milestones are recorded on the News page. I learn a lot from conversations with buyers and real estate agencies, so feedback is welcome — critical feedback included.
